I have lived here for 2 years and the past 6 months or so have been terrible. This I believe is from new management. Where to start... BEWARE CLEANING CHECKS. Some months they won't even come, then some they will go crazy... very inconsistent. If you are out of town or happen to clean too early and the apt gets dirty before they come they will charge you. Last month my roommates and I all had to pay $45 each after we already paid someone else to come clean (because we were gone on study abroad and humanitarian trips) but because they cleaned two days earlier than the checks somehow the apartment was dirty enough to need 4 cleaning teams to clean for an hour to wipe the stove and refrigerator. We have been trying to work something out with management for weeks but they just ignore us. They gouge the poor college students for money charging on average $50 a month in utilities per resident so for one apartment apparently it costs $200 in water and electricity even when multiple residents are gone for much of the month. STEAR CLEAR. I rented from fall 2017 through summer 2019. ...

The facilities were nice, and maintenance requests were always met quickly and well, and that was nice. However, living here just didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. My first reason for not wanting to live at AV was because you have to buy a 1-year contract, but that's a business policy thing, and I get it. (But as general advice, never buy a year contract if you're not definitely staying a whole year. Other places will offer fall/winter and then give current residents first pick if you want to renew for spring/summer. They fill up much quicker because it's a much better system and they're much better places to live. AV will always have spots open because it's an expensive place run with a system that benefits management more than tenants.) 1) The management often didn't do a good job. My biggest annoyance was that my room assignment was changed without notifying me. To make it worse, the office was closed the day I tried to move in, so I was nearly homeless for a night. (They sent a last-minute notification that the office would close 2 hours before it did, and I was in the middle of a 4-hour drive at the time. I'd have left earlier if I'd known—and I'd been checking my email every morning and evening for at least 2 weeks straight.) When I got there, there was no one to check me in/give me keys, so I knocked on the door of the apartment I'd been told was mine (in my contract), to start moving in. Good thing no one was home, or I'd have moved into the wrong place. Here's the thing: one of my only reasons for moving to AV was to live in the same ward as my cousin. They'd moved my cousin and all her roommates down 2 floors so they'd be in the apartment across the hall from me. Then they moved me up a floor without even telling me—because there was a plumbing accident that made that apartment “unlivable”—but at the time I moved in, new people had already moved into that same apartment. We spent the whole year in different wards because of that. I understand oversights, but I was still very miffed. I bought my contract from a girl who had it at a low price, and I had to keep reminding the office to change the charge on my rent back to the lower price for the first couple months. I also got charged for utilities even after I checked out (still had a contract; wasn't able to sell my spring/summer), even though I'd moved halfway across the country and turned in all my keys, parking pass, etc, because I “still potentially have access to the apartment.” (With what keys? That is just so wrong.) Still on management—office hours were very inconvenient for working/studying schedules. I couldn't even leave a voice message out of hours because calls went to some 3rd party company that usually couldn't help with my specific concerns and advised me to check in during the normal open hours. Also, my roommate had a reserved parking spot that some other girl kept parking in. She told the office girls about it multiple times, but they didn't believe her because the other girl was one of their friends and told them (mistakenly) that it was still her spot from the previous year. So my roommate ended up getting booted for parking in a non-reserved spot, and she went ahead and just paid for the ticket because she was so done trying to deal with the office. 2) Probably the biggest reason I didn't like living at AV was because it's so expensive. The rent is high, the parking passes are expensive, and the utilities are extremely high. I have never heard of any apartments in Provo having to spend over $50/month on utilities per person. It's usually been around $15 or below. 3) AV isn't very social (at least compared to other places I've lived), and I thrive on social connections. (I only went for a private room so I wouldn't bother roommates with my early mornings and late nights during student teaching and my music practice during the other semester—though the walls were so thin that it was still really loud for them anyway.) It's antisocial because the building design spaces apartments so far apart and because that's the dynamic you get in a place where everyone has a private room. Most people just ignore you in the hallways. Also, so many people were inactive or skipped out on most of the church meetings. Yeah, the apartments and facilities are nice, but it's just not worth it at all for a frustrating, overpriced, and lonely place. You can find better places to live. I rented from fall 2017 through fall 2018. ...

I was living in on the East coast for the summer, and on my drive to good old Provo, UT received videos and pictures of the apartment I would soon call home. It was horrifying. There were long dark hairs all over the kitchen, the counters were slathered with weeks old food, found some kind of unidentifiable poop by the fridge, walking down the hallway into the bathroom their was still poop skid marks left for us from the previous tenants. The dryer had gunk all over it. We complained, and nothing happened. In the contract it states if you aren't satisfied they would send professional cleaners in. That NEVER happened. Through out the year my roommates and I had several issues with Alpine Village. I don't recommend my worst enemy to live at this place. One of my roommates paid rent via check. A week later she got a notice on her door saying she didn't pay. Her check never went through, and they lost her check. So she wrote another check. A few months later, her bank account had withdrawn money from Alpine Village. Alpine Village had found the lost check, and deposited... causing her to get fees from her bank because she hadn't planned on Alpine village finding the check and depositing it. We told them 9 months before our contract ended that we wanted our contracts sold ASAP. We did everything in our power to sell the contract and were verbally promised that they would be sold. That didn't happen, and now we are still stuck in the apartment. The Soda really isn't free, you get 4 free soda a month, after that they charge you for it. Utilities I paid close to $40 a month between the 4 roommates that's $120. Pretty sure I can find a house that has cheaper utilities. Pretty sure Harry Potters closet under the stairs is bigger then the room you will get at Alpine Village. Management won't work with you. And the office is always on the office phone texting back and forth to who knows who if you have a problem. If I went in for a problem, they would tell me, "Oh we will text so and so about that....." Girl... How do I know you doing anything to fix that problem? Everything they did was over text.. for all I know they could have been stalking their ex boyfriends new girlfriend instead of helping me out. Very unprofessional. In the winter our potty had clogged. A few hours later our dishwasher drain was no longer working, and the dishwasher water had flooded our kitchen and clogged the sink up. A few hours later, our washer stopped working. I cleaned up the flooded waters but still wasn't able to use our kitchen sink because the dishwasher and sink are connected and the water was just filling up in the kitchen sink. I put in a written notice. No one came to help that day. The next day I sent in a notice before work. Came home from work. Toilet still clogged, sink slash dishwasher still broken, and washer down. I went to the office. FINALLY the next morning someone came to take care of our issues. Not sanitary at all. The parking garage sucks and I have a nice scratch on my 2014 passenger side. As you leave the parking garage many idiot teenage 18 or 19 year old drivers will whip into or out of the parking lot. As I was leaving I checked to see if I was in the clear, I was, next think I know a driver whipped around and to avoid a head on collision I had to move over slightly scratching my car. Also mailbox keys are a joke. Mine got stuck in the mailbox key a lot. Eventually I just had my mail go to another friends. They through a party near Halloween every year. I lived on the 2nd story and it shook my windows. I had worked a double at the nursing home and was home for a quick 7.5 hours of sleep before my next shift. I didn't get much sleep that night, and ended up filing a noise complaint through the cops. It was a school night none the less. I've lived in 9 apartments, and this hands down was the worst complex I have stayed in. The management is not helpful at all and you do not get what you pay for. They will literally do ANYTHING to get more money out of you. Expect them to tack on as many charges as they like and when they're asked about it they will say it's standard. Also you will never get your deposit back. Also they say utilities are per apartment but they lie. The MOST DISHONEST apartments you could ever live at. I rented from winter 11 through spring 11. ...

COLLEGE STUDENTS BEWARE!! I moved here 3 years ago from the east coast knowing not a single person or where a "good" place to live would be. After reading that basically all housing management in Provo is filled with scams and issues I decided to take a chance and convinced myself that I'd be able to handle whatever crap they tried to pull.... Alpine Village is VERY good at manipulating tenants. They know how students function and take full advantage of that thought process (e.g. having a contract that is over 20 pages long). What student is going to thoroughly read, understand, and remember a leasing agreement that is over 20 pages long?? When you ask their "staff" (aka: your neighbors at Alpine Village and most likely peers at school) about fees they provide information that is completely false, but is what they know as a college student you want to hear (e.g. your "average" utilities fee probably going to cost 35-40 dollars when in reality you receive a bill for 70 dollars in utilities PER PERSON...their response? "Don't worry it'll go back down next month"....next month? AN INCREASE in that fee). They use a controversial system of breaking down each apartments utility cost called RUBS...google it. I've never once had the opportunity of speaking to someone in a management position that is actually competent aka not a student. Additionally, the "manager" is extremely rude in her demeanor, which is completely unprofessional and unacceptable in my book. I don't pay well over $400 dollars to receive rude and unhelpful customer service. I also shouldn't be paying that much to live in a room that's essentially a walk in closet. You might be thinking "why did this idiot put up with this if she's so miserable?" the simple answer is- it was more convenient to stay until I finished out school then risk moving into a WORSE apartment complex. Now that I'm in my last year I want to warn any and all students considering this apartment complex. Your money can be better spent elsewhere, I can promise you that! They will offer you nothing but cheap apartments that are dolled up to appear incredibly nice and force you to spend much more than you anticipated on housing that is no where near as nice as they advertise it to be. When you look at the initial price and the amenities and think "it's too good to be true"....you're absolutely right! It is! ITS A SCAM!! I'm stuck until Spring 2014. Don't make the same mistake I did. I rented from fall 10 through spring 11. ...

I rented through Spring of 2012 through Winter 2014. Management SUCKS. If you call or email the office to get assistance, ask about a bill, or talk about the apartment itself, they will NOT get back to you. I'm pretty sure they just empty out their email and voicemail inboxes. The only time they will even speak to you is if you force it by physically going into the office and talking to them face to face, which they lie half the time when they do that anyway. I needed to change apartments (I got it "sorted out" - or so I thought) months before hand. I wanted to move in a week or so earlier than the designated move in date. The office promised to contact the current/previous tenant to see if she was OK with that. And they promised to get back to me with any new information. Well, they never got back to me. So I went in again to the office a few days later. They claimed the girl didn't want to move out her stuff even though she had already gotten a new apartment elsewhere. But they promised to call again, and to also call me with updated information. Once again, I received no information. This happened an additional 3 times. Finally I could move in (on the designated date) and the previous tenant had left a note for me saying she had moved out two weeks earlier. The management LIED! They do everything they can to avoid actual work. On top of it all, they keep hiking up prices. Rent went up $10 this year and the Parking Passes were doubled to $80! And you HAVE to buy a year-long pass even if you aren't living here for a full year. This place is a scam. It may look nice on the outside, but they do anything they can to steal your money and blame you for faulty equipment in the apartments. The TV in my old apartment constantly had a loud "popping noise" and it was an internal issue - management did nothing and claimed they could hear no noise. The toilet never worked, it would clog even when you just test-flushed it with nothing in it but water. The water heater died in the middle of winter and management wouldn't get to it for over a week. This place could be a nice place to live, but the management sucks and the cost is way too high. The location is great, but that's all. ...

I was somewhat clueless when I was shopping for apartments, so hopefully I can help someone else out who is in the same position I was in last year. First of all, Alpine Village is a very "nice" place to live. I say "nice" because that's how it looks. It's a very appealing complex with lots of amenities and perks for residents. Honestly, for the location to BYU, I-15, shopping, the hospital, etc, it is a great price for where it is at. Unfortunately, under scrutiny, it falls far short of expectations and promises. I have three major issues: shoddy construction, noise, and internet speeds. The apartments look nice, but corners were definitely cut to save money. All of the doors are hung using two hinges instead of three. Eventually the start to sag. My front door leaked like a sieve and during the winter, it got very cold in the front rooms. My bedroom door has almost ripped completely off of the frame. And don't even try to put one of those shoe racks on the door... It WILL fall. The noise is also a big issue. This is partially a design problem, but it's still a problem. With stone-fascia walls and a concrete courtyard, you can here everything (and I do mean everything) that goes on in the courtyard. I wish my unit faced the road instead. There are constantly parties being held, even during the week, that go on until 2 or 3 am! And this may not bother other people, but the internet speed are horrible. They weren't bad to begin with but after about 6 months of residency, my speeds suddenly tanked to BELOW DIAL-UP SPEEDS. Literally. I actually have the screenshots of the speed tests to prove it. A lot of homework is now done online. Some of my professors even post videos online that we are required to watch. I can't even view a YouTube video with these speeds. The overall worst thing is that I have complained, many times, and nothing has been done. What's worse is that they don't care. When I first inquired about the slow internet speeds, I did so very respectfully and in return I was told "Sorry. That's not my concern." I'm so glad to be moving away from here. Be warned - you will probably have a bad time at Alpine Village. ...

DO NOT LIVE HERE! I thought it was bad enough when they try and nickel and dime you for everything, but if you live by the BYU Honor Code don't expect Alpine to honor it even if the contract says that they uphold the standards. After having roommates who clearly were outside of the BYU Honor Code and brought illegal substances in to the apartment they were given a Behavioral Warning rather than being terminated from residency. Oh and it wasn't their first offense. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ALPINE IS A FREAKING JOKE! The front office is a train wreck. Get your act together! Before I moved into Alpine, I had heard from several people that everyone who lived there was shallow, vain etc. I was really nervous about it.. especially about the ward that I would be attending. However, I have absolutely LOVED living here. I have lived in Provo for 4 years and this is by far the best place I've been. Everyone is so nice. The maintenance people are awesome! Horrible place to live. The last two years were amazing and I loved it. But, since Fall 2011, it's just terrible place to live. everyone is super shallow and everyday is some extravagant fashion show. Most of the people who live here do NOT go to BYU and also don't abide by the BYU honour code. No one dates at all. Everyone is also super young except for the forever bachelors who expect some 10 girl to walk through their door haha. My daughter lived in Alpine Village from Aug. '10 through 'Aug. 11. First off, the apartment is very small. I think people are impressed by the granite counters, washer/dryer, flat-screen T.V., and swimming pool, but after all that fluff, its not a nice place to live or visit. If the visitor's parking is full, which it often is, visitors are forced to park blocks away. The "leather" couches are really vinyl and don't hold up. The worst part is the scary, dark, cold, cement hallways. It makes it feel like a prison. Also, most of the parking is off the sliding glass door which does not lock. So to lock your door you have to walk all the way through the scary hallways to get to your car. How hard would it have been to simply put a lock on the sliding glass door?? (They make them by the way) Also the cement work outside the apartments are uneven. I've tripped and seen other trip many times. The management is quite ignorant and will not budge on late fees, even if was your bank's fault! I rented from fall 10 through summer 11. ...
